I've been suffering from a bit of bloggers-block since arriving in Seattle, but the incredible Dodgers ending tonight has me raring to go. It's as if they could sense that I chose to watch Monday Night Football instead of the beginning of their game.
I had been watching the score all night:
4-0 Padres in the firstSo the Dodgers headed into the ninth down four runs, with Hoffman waiting in case of trouble.
6-4 Padres in the eighth
9-5 Padres in the ninth
Then Kent, Drew, Martin, and Anderson each hit a solo homerun with no outs. Martin and Anderson off consecutive pitches from freakin' Hoffman.
I'm not one of those people who thinks a homerun can come too early and kill a rally, but I admit after each of the first three I was a little disappointed that nobody was on base. But hey, if you keep hitting them, that works too.
Then, disaster- the Padres came back to take the lead in the top of the tenth, and it looked like all the heroics were going to be wasted.
Walk-off home run by Garciaparra. And the incredible Vin Scully, in one of his signature moves, let the crowd do the talking
A beaut.
And how the Dodger blogosphere is burning up tonight:
I know this isn't a sports blog, and many of you aren't interested,
but go watch the highlights. This is definitively one of the big
games, Pantheon big, to borrow from Simmons, of Dodger history. I
blame myself, not fantasy football, that I didn't stay home and watch
it live.
